BIOTA AFRICA      www.biota-africa.org
BIOTA AFRICA has been jointly invented by African and German researchers aiming at the establishment of research supporting sustainable use and conservation of biodiversity in Africa.

Drylands and Desert Restoration Hub      http://desertrestorationhub.com/

There is great need to restore existing despoiled drylands and to combat increasing desertification. Restoring habitats improves biodiversity, increases carbon sequestration, enhancing the quality of life for people. An essential measure is the planting of and reestablishment of vegetation. The successful establishment of vegetation in arid areas is complex requiring the multi-disciplinary skills of arid land experts with various capabilities, in soils, hydrology, ecology, agronomy, land management etc. However, vegetation restoration techniques in arid areas require review and development. Information on restoration is highly dispersed and often difficult to obtain.

The creation of the ‘Drylands and Desert Restoration Hub’ is aimed to bring together the expertise, knowledge and information on vegetation establishment and management that exists in the EU and around the world. The drylands and desert restoration hub provides a focus for information for all stakeholders.

Indigo development & change      www.indigo-dc.org
Indigo development & change facilitates empowerment of disadvantaged groups, contributing towards a socially just society while conserving biodiversity in rural areas of South Africa and in the context of changing natural and social systems. We will achieve this through development of participatory approaches, the active development of local and global networks and capacity development processes.

International foundation for gardener exchange      www.gaertneraustausch.de
We offer gardeners of Botanical Gardens an international exchange program to widen their horticultural knowledge. The main focus is to get to know plants in their natural habitats, as well as sharing the knowledge in cultivating rare, endangered or difficult to grow plants with fellow gardeners elsewhere in the world. Furthermore we want to promote the reciprocal understanding of environmental protection, as well as language, life and culture of other nationalities.

Martin Gruber, Anthropology & Film      www.ethnofilm.de
Projects at the intersection between film and anthropology: Ethnographic film, participatory film, PV

MECHAL      www.mechal.org
An integrated research approach to develop adaptive management strategies by small scale farmers in semi-arid South Africa and Ethiopia under changing climatic and policy conditions.
